Get it? Yes, we’re talking about branding. Yes, this has everything to do with you because whether you’re Jimmy Choo, Alexander Wang, Jane or Lerato, you are a brand. Essentially, just by being a human being, you are a brand. You may not necessarily be a good one but that’s why I’m here. So, “you’re welcome” in advance 🙂
Someone once told me that your brand is part of your personality. It isn’t what people say when you’re in front of them but rather what they say once you’ve left the room. It’s almost like when someone walks past you and you can smell them even after their gone. That’s kind of what I’m talking about. Their after scent I guess. Their “ness”.
Words of wisdom:
- Assess your environment: No matter if you’re running to get milk, lying around at home or doing yoga, understand that your brand is under scrutiny. Be prepared!
- 4/5 word description: Before you walk out that door, ask yourself how you’d like to be described. Does the current state of your brand say that? Be honest with yourself. You’re the only one who stands to lose here.
- Competitors: It doesn’t matter who you are you will always have competitors and they’re always waiting to take your spot. You have to stay ready! Keeping up with trends isn’t enough, you have to set the trends! (I know it sounds so cliché but it’s cliché for a reason).
- Lasting impressions: Never give others ammunition to bad mouth you. You want them to beg to be part of your brand. Leave them wanting more.
So what am I saying?
Never forget who you are as a brand. Everything from what you say to who you associate yourself with says a lot about you. Take care of your brand because you never want to be the brand that’s picked last for teams. Work to be the leader who others are willing to bribe with Zara vouchers just to be part of your B(R)AND.
